Illustratie FNV

Als redacteur bij het ledenblad LAVA! van de Jonge Socialisten in de Partij van de Arbeid werd ik door mijn hoofdredacteur ook gevraagd of ik een illustratie wilde maken voor de nieuwe rubriek "De Stelling". Daarin worden leden uitgedaagd een kort betoog vóór of tegen de stelling te schrijven en de beste inzendingen worden ook geplaatst in het blad. De eerste keer dat we deze rubriek wilden publiceren kwamen we er samen met de vormgever achter dat de illustratie die ik gemaakt had niet echt paste in de ruimte die we hadden, en zodoende werd hij uiteindelijk niet geplaatst. Maar ik vind hem zelf nog best leuk dus daarom zet ik hem alsnog hier.

As an contributing editor to the membership magazine LAVA! of the Dutch Young Socialists I was asked to draw an illustration for a new rubric called "De Stelling" (The Theorem). Members are challenged to write a short plea in favor or against this point of view and the best contributions are published in the magazine. When we were composing the first edition with this new rubric, we and the graphic designer found out that the illustration I made didn't quite fit in the space we had, and in the end, it did not get published. But I still like it so I'm putting it here anyways.

The theorem: "trade unions delay reforms and are therefore a disadvantage to the youth" (the letters FNV stand for the Dutch trade union)

Essayillustratie

Marijn Ouwehand, mede-JS'er, schreef een essay over talentontwikkeling in het onderwijs voor een Zomerschool over sociaal-democatie (wut? zie hier) en ik maakte een illustratie bij zijn tekst. In zijn tekst benadrukt Marijn hoe belangrijk het is voor zo'n systeem om zowel een visie als een missie te hebben.


"Wat gebeurt er zonder visie en missie? Simpel, men neme een aap en een dartbord.
Verdeel het dartbord in tweeën zet aan de ene helft “Ja” en bij de andere helft
“Nee”. Bind om de dartpijltjes een stukje papier met een voorstel. Klaar!"

Marijn Ouwehand, fellow member of the Dutch Young Socialists, wrote an essay about talent development in the educational system and I drew an illustration for it. In his text, Marijn emphasised the importance for such an institution of having a vision as well as a mission.

"What happens without a vision and a mission? It's easy, you take a monkey and a dartboard. Split the dartboard in two, one saying "Yes" and the other side "No". Wrap a little piece of paper around the darts on which a suggestion is written. Done!"

Verfplezier

Een beetje gek doen met acrylverf. Het zorgt voor rimpels en bladdert snel af. En het jeukt. Gelukkig krijg je het er weer snel af.
